What is Advertising?

Advertising is the act of enticing an audience to start or continue doing a certain action. Advertising The action could involve the purchase of a product or service or it may not.

The media is what advertisers use to deliver their messages to the target audience. It could be digital or printed media:

What is Branding?

When you think of you favorite cereal, the image that comes to mind is the branding that manufacturer has created for that product. It could be any of the following:
- The images printed on the box
- The company's logo
- The tag line use by that brand
- The shape, smell and taste of the cereal itself
- How it makes you feel when you eat it

Branding is created or cultivated based on how we want the customer to view or feel about a product or service and how we communicate it to the customer.

Branding take a long time and resources to develop hence most business will go to extreme lengths to protect others from using them. This is done by registering trademarks, patents and sometimes legal battles.

What is Publicity?

Publicity involves making people about the existence of something. it could be product, service as well as other issue that may affect people's lives in one way or another.

Publicity can be good or bad depending on where you stand. As long as it gets more and more talking about the publicity strategy is working.

Publicists are hired by organisations to manage what information about the organisation, its products and services is relayed to the public and what methods are used depending on the clientele. For example if they are dealing with a younger population they may choose to make announcements on social media or use newspapers to reach an older segment of the population.

What is Marketing?

Marketing is all about communicating the benefits that a customer will experience if they start or continue consuming a product, service and associating with that brand.

Word of mouth is the most basic method of marketing where you have an agent selling to a customer by speaking to them directly.

You have to choose a market segment that has a certain affinity for the product you are marketing and try to get them to consume more of the product.

Marketing is used by corporations to increase their sales and by non-profit organisations like the government to increase consumption of a service or product by the public.

As an entrepreneur you will find yourself performing all these tasks at some point and as build your business. Advertising, Branding, Publicity, and Marketing allow you get a new product in the hands of your targeted customers and revenue in your till. The more people are aware that you provide a service or product, the more sales you will make.
